I've seen alot of bogus cheat codes so here are the codes I have personally tested and found to be working:
In the player select screen rename the name and type in GOURANGA to activate cheat mode.
Then rename again and type these codes (you can use more than 1):
EATSOUP - Everything is free (except save game)
RSJABBER - Invincible, however you can still die if you drown, get electrified or get caught inside an exploding car.
GOREFEST - There is blood (lots of it) when people die. *grin*
GODOFGTA - Gives you all weapons + ammo.
BEMEALL or UKGAMER-All 3 cities
MUCHCASH - Gives you $500,000 (don't need activation code, but you're name must be muchcash all the time)
BUCKFAST - Starts a city wide riot

* Hint:
If you are struggling to finish enough missions to move from level 1 to level 2 try this:
Hunt around until you find a tank( theres one by the crusher in the south east corner and also one in Yakuza territory) Its part of a kill frenzy but don't worry about completing it.
Drive around causing as much destruction as you can but don't get caught what ever you do. Keep driving over other vehicles until you have $ 1 million and you will receive an instruction to follow the purple arrow which has now appeared. once you have followed the arrow into the church yard get out of the tank and run into the building that the arrow is pointing to and you will skip to level 2.
Be warned you don't keep the money you earn't on the first level so you will have to complete more missions to get enough money to save the game on level 2.

To use codes, you have to run the game with the console enabled.
Launch Half-Life in developer mode by going to your Windows Startmenu,selecting "Run", and typing

Tip 1
If it's possible, maintain a money reserve of at least 10,000 to 15,000 gold pieces. This fund can be used to buy armies out of fights they just can't win. This way, you won't lose all your hard-earned units.
Tip 2
On the larger maps, use one or two token heroes with fast movement rates to move units up from your cities to your powerful heroes out in the field.
Tip 3
In most scenarios time is of the essence. While you are building up strength, the computer player is busy building up one or two massive armies. Find and destroy them early on, even if it takes two or three armies attacking in quick succession to do it.
